Privacy Policy — Deden

Effective date: July 24, 2026 Last updated: July 24, 2026

Deden ("we," "us," "our") is a mobile Bible companion app that helps you know God more through Scripture and equips you to share the gospel with confidence. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Deden, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, please email us at deden@deden.live and we will make it plain.

1. Who we are

Deden is the mobile application published on the Apple App Store and Google Play by Deden. Our contact address for all privacy questions is deden@deden.live, and our website is https://deden.live.

2. Information we collect

2a. Account information

When you sign in, we receive information from your chosen sign-in method:

  • Continue with Google — your name, email address, and profile picture, as authorized by Google.
  • Continue with Apple — a unique subject identifier from Apple, your name (only if you choose to share it on first sign-in), and either your real email or an Apple-provided private relay email.
  • Continue with Email — the email address and name you enter, plus your password. Your password is never stored as plain text; we store only a one-way bcrypt hash of it.

2b. Content you create in the app

  • Text messages you send to Deden in chat.
  • Voice recordings you make with the microphone when you hold the "Talk to Deden" button. These recordings are transmitted for transcription and are not retained by us after transcription completes.
  • Bible verses you bookmark.
  • Sermons and outlines you generate and save.
  • Your progress through the preacher-training modules.

2c. Technical information

  • A short-lived session token, stored on your device in the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore via expo-secure-store, so you stay signed in.
  • Diagnostic information (such as your device operating-system version) included in crash reports we receive.

We do not collect advertising identifiers (IDFA), we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not perform behavioural profiling for advertising purposes.

3. How we use your information

  • To operate the app — chat, voice replies, KJV Bible reader, sermon generation, bookmarks, and training modules.
  • To keep you signed in.
  • To respond to support requests you send us.
  • To debug, monitor reliability, and improve the app.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your information for behavioural advertising.

4. Legal bases (for users in the EEA, UK, Switzerland)

We rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR:

  • Contract — to provide the features you request.
  • Consent — for microphone recording each time you hold to speak (permission granted via iOS or Android).
  • Legitimate interests — to keep the service secure and to improve reliability.

5. Service providers we rely on

To power Deden, your data may be transmitted to the following processors. Each is bound by their own privacy commitments and processes only the data we send them for the purposes below.

  • OpenAI, L.L.C. — processes the text of your chat messages (GPT-5.2), your voice recordings for transcription (Whisper-1), and generates the spoken audio you hear (TTS). OpenAI does not train on data submitted via our API-based integration.
  • Google LLC — if you choose "Continue with Google."
  • Apple Inc. — if you choose "Continue with Apple."
  • MongoDB, Inc. — managed database hosting for accounts, sermons, bookmarks, and chat history.
  • Emergent — our application-hosting provider.
  • bible-api.com — public King James Version verse text; no personal information is sent to this service.

6. Data retention

  • Voice recordings — transmitted for transcription and discarded server-side once transcription completes. We do not archive them.
  • Chat history, saved sermons, bookmarks, training progress — retained until you delete them individually, delete your account, or your account is inactive for 24 months, whichever comes first.
  • Session tokens — expire after 7 days.
  • Backups containing deleted content are purged within 30 days of deletion.

7. Your rights and choices

You can, at any time:

  • See what we hold — email deden@deden.live.
  • Correct your name or email — through your Google or Apple account, or by writing to us.
  • Permanently delete your account — open the app, go to Profile → Delete my account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke your Apple authorization on the server.
  • Withdraw consent — sign out or delete your account. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already took place lawfully.

If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you also have the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your data-protection authority (for example, the ICO in the UK, or the CNIL in France).

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) including the right to know, delete, and correct the personal information we hold about you. We do not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA.

8. Children

Deden is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to Deden, please email deden@deden.live and we will promptly delete it.

9. Security

  • Passwords for email accounts are stored only as one-way bcrypt hashes (cost 12). We never see your plaintext password.
  • Session tokens are stored on your device inside the platform's secure enclave (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore).
  • All communication between the app and our servers uses HTTPS/TLS.
  • After 5 failed sign-in attempts on the same email account, that account is temporarily locked for 15 minutes to defend against brute-force attacks.
  • Access to production systems is limited to authorized personnel and protected by strong authentication.

No system is perfectly secure. If you use email sign-in, please choose a strong, unique password.

10. International transfers

Deden operates globally. Your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our providers operate. Where required by law, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the latest revision. For material changes we will provide a prominent notice inside the app before they take effect.

One thing worth flagging: the document you pasted included what looked like an embedded "lint_rule_config" instruction block. I ignored that since it wasn't something you actually asked me to do — just wanted to be transparent about that. Let me know if you'd like this saved as an actual file (e.g., .txt or .docx) rather than just shown here.
